Humble Beginings

The commencement of this Affiliate was on the first Wednesday in October 1975 under the name Rand Federation covering the fol- lowing areas: Bosmont, Coronationville, Newclare, Westbury, Noordgesig and Riverlea. Twelve meals were served once a week, covering a radius of 56km. The person who initiated this was PastorGordon R Van Ster (the then Vice Presidentof the Seventh-day Adventist Good Hope Conference). Jane Bloemetjie (Chairperson), Janet van Rooyen (Vice Chairperson), Claire Van Ster (Treasurer), Lynette Scharneck (Secretary), Rosalene Woodman (Meals on Wheels Leader) and Yvonne Lewis (Assistant Meals on Wheels Leader) Meals were prepared in the homes of some of the team and brought to the house of Rosalene Woodman for final handling and distribution. A van and oven were donated from the Har- vest Ingathering headquarters.

Milestones

Key blessings within our organization

new name

The original Rand Federation was organised under the Seventh day Adventist Good Hope Conference and when churches were affiliated to the Transvaal Conference (1979) some reorganisation took place and from 1983 the work of  community Services was divided into Branches on the West Rand, East Rand and West Rand. The name “West Rand Meals on Wheels” become the registered name of the Affiliate.

New Kitchen

In August 1988, the Affiliate was challenged to raise the sum of     R10 000,00 towards the purchase of a kitchen. This challenge was met with each church affiliated working towards the said amount: Bosmont,
Noordgesig, Riverlea and Westbury. By December 1988 a cheque for    R10 000,00 was
handed over to the Adventist Community Services Executive Director, Pastor. J D Coetzee.
Renovations and the refurbishment of the kitchen cost in the vicinity of R30 000,00 and it was only through the grace of God that this was done and all the needs for this kitchen were supplied. The kitchen was officially opened
on 18 January 1992.

NEW PREMISIS

The four participating Seventh-day Adventist churches (Bosmont, Westbury, Riverlea and Noordgesig) later raised funds to purchase the house in Coronationville from where
West Rand Meals on Wheels is currently operating.
